Our team helps lead, support, and care for the life of Drayton Reformed Church. From worship and teaching to children’s ministry, administration, and church leadership, each person plays a meaningful role in helping our church grow in faith, connection, and service.
As a group of newly immigrated Dutch Christians, the congregation of Drayton Reformed Church began worshipping in the Town Hall (not Theatre) in 1952 with 35 communicant members and 40 baptized members (likely children). Five years later, in 1957, a $32,000 church construction project began on a three-acre plot of land that was purchased for $600. Soon after, a few more trusses were added to accommodate the growing congregation.
As the congregation continues to grow, an addition was added to the back of the church building in 1975. This included a Fellowship Hall and kitchen as well as more Sunday School. rooms downstairs. This addition included the infamous ‘flat roof’. The next few years saw many renovations and improvements, especially downstairs as the number of children and youth grew. Youth groups often participated in these projects. A quote from a member of the 1980s and 90s is “there was never a time we weren’t renovating”.
In the late 1990s, it became apparent that the current church space was simply not large enough for the growing congregation. Much discussion was had about what to do, including splitting the congregation into an Arthur and Drayton congregation. However, it was decided to stay united and that the church would undertake a large expansion. This was made possible through thousands of volunteer hours by members of the congregation working with the contractor. The expansion was completed in 1999.
I am quite happy with my church family. I have been a member here since 1960. DRC is very friendly and caring; it is like a family. The people are consistently there for you, even when you don’t realize it. It is good to have that kind of community.
Drayton Reformed Church has been a place where our family can grow in faith together and feel supported as we raise our young girls. We would describe Drayton Reformed Church as a welcoming, Christ-centered community where people genuinely care for one another. What we value most is being able to share our faith as a family, alongside Cam’s parents, and raise our girls in a community that points them to God.
As lifelong members, DRC has been a great place to raise our children from the nursery, Sunday School, Youth Group up into adulthood where they continue their walk with Christ. DRC has a wider range of activities for all ages and they are so welcoming. DRC has been there for all of our ups and downs as a family. We are blessed to call DRC home. We feel so loved and cared for.
